‘Putting arthritis first’
We all know that exercise is good for our health. This is particularly important for those people with arthritis who benefit from regular exercise to maintain their joint mobility and strength, posture and balance. Chartered physiotherapist Juliette O’Hea has lived with arthritis since she was 11years old although she was not diagnosed until many years later at physiotherapy school.
After a flare up of her joints in 1991, she decided that she would specialise in arthritis management and she undertook a masters degree in rheumatology. Subsequently Juliette enjoyed many years of work as a hospital based rheumatology physiotherapist assisting the consultant rheumatologists in the management of their patients with arthritis. After 10 years of stimulating work, she decided to leave the hospital environment as ironically her joints were becoming more troublesome following the birth of her daughter.
In 2007 Juliette was fortunate to be prescribed a strong, effective medication called etanercept and within a fortnight her joints became less painful and she regained energy. It was time to get back to work! Seeing a need in the local area, she started up exercise classes in Emsworth, Chichester and Havant for people with arthritis. She also began to offer home visits.
If you would like to pop along and try a free taster class, do give her a call. All ages and abilities are welcome with the exercises tailored to your needs. Further information can be found on her website with details of venues, times, dates, home visits and fees.
