WI Articles – September 2017
Funtington and West Stoke WI President Mrs Benny Paxton
Our guest speaker for September is Linda MacDonald who is going to advise us on the shapes and styles of clothing that would flatter our figures. Stylish as all our members are, ideas and guidance are always helpful so we look forward to picking up some useful hints.
At the time of writing, our Summer garden lunch has not taken place yet, but this annual event that is held in the President’s garden is always an enjoyable time to chat and relax with friends.
Another event that is due to take place in August is the picnic organised to watch the Ladies’ Day races at Goodwood, great fun as long as the weather is kind.
There are several outings planned in the coming months; a visit to Amberly Museum in September, a trip to the Mary Rose in October and Pallant House Gallery for a talk and tour in November.
If you are interested in joining our active WI, meetings are held from 7pm, the third Wednesday of each month at the village hall in West Ashling.
It is August, therefore it must be time for our Summer Garden Party in the grounds of St. John’s Church. We have been having teas here for a number of years, but for the first time the
weather was against us and we stayed inside. It was nevertheless an enjoyable and cosy afternoon. The fresh cream scones went down well and the conversation flowed.
As it is summer holidays, our President Margaret was entertaining her grand daughters, and then they both entertained us by singing songs from the the shows. So thank you to Peggy and Libby for making the occasion special. We also said farewell to one of our long time members, Mary, who is moving to North Wales to be near family. She spent many years as our treasurer and always won the Rose Bowl for bringing interesting fresh flowers to our meetings every month. We wish you all the best in your new home.
In September our guest speakers will be from St Wilfred’s Hospice. We look forward to meeting them in the Village Hall on Thursday Sept. 7th at 2 p.m. if you wish to join us.
