Health Fair with FECH

Emsworth_Marina

The Health Fair organised by Friends of Emsworth Community Health (FECH) comes to the Emsworth Baptist Church on May 5th!

Background

The Friends of Emsworth Community Hospital were formed in 1949. At that time the Hospital had 15 in patient beds, and was the base for a large community team, including District Nurses and Health Visitors, a Child and family therapy team, and a Multidisciplinary Response Team.

There was also accommodation for Physiotherapy, Podiatry and visiting clinics, and the Red Cross equipment loan service had a base there.

The in-patient beds were closed in 2005, and the whole hospital was closed in 2012. The Friends of the Hospital then became the Friends of Emsworth Community Health.

The Emsworth Surgery is too small for an expanding General Practice, and was also unable to offer space to the other community services, which have moved to Havant. Proposals to  re-develop the Hospital site as a GP surgery, with the possibility of accommodation for other services,

have been under discussion for some time.

Emsworth is a strong and growing community with a large elderly population, and a growing number of young families and children. The transport links with Havant, particularly Oak Park where some community services are based, are poor.

The Friends therefore aims to maintain the interest of the public in local services, and to support their development.

FECH

The Friends of Emsworth Community Health is a registered charity with a local membership and managed by it’s trustees. It supports organisations that provide services that benefit the health and well being of people in Emsworth by providing funds, and by other means. In the last year we made grants of over £22,000 to 20 local health related organisations.

FECH is involved in the discussions to redevelop the hospital site to provide a new surgery, and to make community health services available to the people of Emsworth.

FECH also owns and maintains the Hospital garden as a public amenity.

Membership

FECH depends on the support of it’s members. To become a member of FECH please contact Irene Craig at irenecraig71@gmail.com.

Grants

FECH makes grants that further it’s objects, which are to support organisations that promote the health and wellbeing of the people of Emsworth. It will consider requests for equipment, amenities and other projects for which there is:

  • A demonstrable need
  • Evidence of effectiveness
  • Good value for money, and
  • Funds cannot normally be obtained from other sources.

For more information about grants please Email our Treasurer Reg Harnett regharnett1941@btinternet.com

Silver Linings Project

2

SILVER LININGS…You may have seen some of the flyers about it distributed in the community…the project was shortlisted in the Big Lottery’s The People’s Projects and had the chance of winning £50,000 – you’ll be please to know they won!

SILVER LININGS… already has a flourishing partnership with ‘The Right to Work’ and together provide an inspirational community café for older people.  SILVER LININGS will build on this success and give older people that precious time together when they can enjoy a range of modern and exciting day activities indoors and out, all designed to improve their health and wellbeing.  SILVER LININGS is passionate about making a difference to older people to break the cycle of loneliness that can so easily lead to depression so that older people can start to look forwards again. These times can remind them that they are not alone and that happiness and better health is still theirs for the taking.  SILVER LININGS will initially run on Mondays and hopefully will grow in the future.  There is also some information on our website – http://www.cfheh.org.uk/services/hewitts-at-emsworth/.

Congratulations to Borland & Borland on 20 year anniversary!

Celebrating 20 Years – Borland & Borland Estate Agents

2 L,H,R,K B&B team

BORLAND & BORLAND, Emsworth’s award-winning, independent estate agents are this month celebrating 20 years in business. Local Emsworth businesses and supporters of Borland & Borland, as well as family and friends, recently joined Partner Steven Borland and his staff for an evening of celebration at the Emsworth Slipper Sailing Club.

Among the 80 guests was Borland & Borland’s first client when they opened in 1995, Sheena Burnett, who was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Steven at the event.
“We’ve given Sheena a bit of a surprise with this presentation, hopefully a nice one though!  She was our first ever client 20 years ago and we still act for her now.  We wanted to recognise her, and thank her for continuously supporting Borland& Borland over all these years,” said Steven.  He also paid tribute to his hard-working team, for their loyal service and professionalism over the years.
“The evening was a huge success!” said one of the guests afterwards.

After opening their residential sales office in 1995, Borland & Borland opened a lettings office 10 years later.  Over the 20 years their services have expanded to cover block and estate management, full assessment of new homes and development sites, commercial sales and lettings, as well as boat mooring rentals.1 Sheena & flowers

Steven Borland first came to Emsworth in 1984 with Parkinsons estate agents and soon became Black Horse agency’s youngest ever manager at the age of 26.  He has supported the local Emsworth community in many ways over the last 30 years – from contributing to the Emsworth roundabout design, to sponsoring the Emsworth Horticultural Society, the Emsworth Museum, Brook Meadow and Southbourne Boys Football Team.  He also helped plant replacement trees in Emsworth Square following the great storm of 1987.

The unique combination of more than 20 years in-depth local knowledge, their prominent premises in Emsworth’s High Street and their online presence with OnTheMarket.com and Rightmove.com, means Borland & Borland have established themselves as Emsworth’s trusted, quality, independent estate agents.

Borland & Borland are members of the NAEA, ARLA, TPO, PPA and the Emsworth Business Association – their high standards of estate agency are maintained at all times.
