Match Report: Salthill CC vs Bosham CC

The idyllic setting of a sunbathed field in Bosham hosted this season’s most anticipated cricket game, between local rivals Bosham CC and Salthill CC.

Having won the toss, Salthill elected to bowl on a dry and green wicket opening up with A. Court and R. Dawltry. The decision to bowl first quickly paid dividends as Court took his first wicket in the 4th over with an edge to wicketkeeper S. Richardson. This early wicket sparked a small batting collapse from Bosham as Court and Dawltry took a steady flow of wickets to leave Bosham at 44-5 off of 12 overs. Dawltry was particularly impressive during his 4th over with the removal of both D. McLean and J. Cox and leave the Bosham’s middle order exposed. D. Wells followed the trend of some very tight Salthill bowling by removing the middle order, finishing with figures of 4-0-8-4. Bosham were finally all dismissed for 61 in the 23rd over after some strong resistance from the tail. An incredible bowling and fielding performance from Salthill left them chasing the small total 62 to win the game.

Salthill made a solid start to their innings swiftly moving onto 30-0 until L. Dawltry gloved a rising ball to Bosham’s wicketkeeper. A. Wallsgrove top scored with 21 with some good support coming from S. Richardson and N. Bishop as Salthill eased towards the winning total. Some misguided batting lead to the fall of 2 wickets towards the end of Salthills innings but in the end they met their target of 62 with consummate ease in the 14th over.

A very strong win for Salthill against fierce local rivals Bosham which sees them move up to 7th in the Hampshire Regional Division 2 South league.
