Macmillan Coffee Morning Success
It all started with a simple question from Serena to her Gran, Doris, to have a coffee morning for her mum, Beth, who is receiving treatment for cancer.
And so family and friends pulled together; baking tins were dusted off, aprons were tied, raffle prizes were gifted, tombola prizes were boxed, lavender bags were stitched and honey was donated, ready for the big day.
The day dawned with promises of blue skies and sunshine for the special event at St Mary’s Church, Funtington. The early morning disappeared as everyone busily arranged the tables, hung the bunting, laid out the delicious homemade cakes and set out cups and sauces.
Then the helpers all took their places ready for the onslaught and the next two hours of smiling, laughing, chatting, selling, finding change, washing endless cups, serving hundreds of pieces of cake, folding raffle tickets, mingling with friends old and new, encouraging people to enter competitions and buy gifts, all for a very good cause.
The hours soared by and it was time to announce the competition winners and draw the raffle prizes. Father Charles kindly donated the prize he won and there were delighted ooos and aahs as people claimed their raffle prizes.
Then the task of tidying and trying to donate the remaining mountain of cakes before closing the doors on a very busy Macmillan Coffee Morning and heading home for a well-earned cuppa!
A big thank you to all those who helped to make the event such a success, too many to mention by name and best to not mention for fear of forgetting someone and offending, but you all know who you are, a big thank you to the very generous companies who donated raffle prizes, a heartfelt thank you to all the family, friends and guests who turned up in their masses and dipped deep into their wallets, purses and piggy banks, thank you Doris for organising the day and Serena for having the idea, finally, our thoughts and wishes are with you, Beth.
