Emsworth Show 2018 – Mark the date in your diaries!

Mark the date in your calendar… the Best Little Show in the South is now a regular event for visitors from around the area.  This is a great day out for all the family at only £5 per adult.

Entertainments in the two arenas are almost finalised… watch the posters for news of a brand new event in the main arena, as well as the dog agility, falconry and dancers, which are favourites.  The traditional dog show takes place as usual in the small arena, which also hosts attractions such as karate displays and Punch and Judy shows.

At the Show you can meet up with friends, enjoy some refreshments from the food stalls or simply bring a picnic, while listening to music from various bands. You can tour the magnificent fruit, vegetable, cookery, craft and photographic displays in the huge marquee. Why not enter some of the competitions yourself to win prizes?  There are a host of rides and attractions for children and you will all enjoy visiting the show animals.  You might also like to have a go at archery on the green.  There are many stalls selling local produce, art and crafts, clothing and jewellery, plants, pet products, etc.  Maybe you would like to be a stallholder yourself.  Contact us via the website* for details of how you can apply.

The Show is entirely staffed by volunteers, and if you are able to help over the Show weekend helping to set up tables in the Marquee, putting up gazebos, selling our prize draw tickets, taking money at the two entrances, directing traffic or clearing up at the end, you won’t even have to pay to come in!   And you will have the satisfaction of keeping this very special Show going for the benefit of the community.  Please leave us a message via the website if you’d like to join us.

We’re also recruiting key Show Managers.  The Show would not take place without those who do all the advance planning or take on major supervisory jobs over the Show weekend.  Every year our team of managers needs one or two people to replace those who have stepped down.   This year we need someone to mastermind the Traffic plan, including the Park and Ride and various car parks.   Or maybe you could take on the management of the marquee mainly over Show weekend, overseeing the setting up and the volunteer afternoon stewards while the public admire the entries on Show Day, working alongside the Show Secretary?  Meanwhile, our Show Secretary is looking for an ‘apprentice’ Show Secretary to learn the ropes of preparing the schedule, finding judges, planning the detailed layout of the marquee and much else.  Do ring me for an informal chat about any of these roles or leave us all a message on the website.

So keep the date free, look out for our posters, fliers and website for the latest news.  And why not volunteer to help carry the Show into next year; Emsworth Horticultural Society’s centenary year.

Do you have a beautiful garden/allotment/hanging basket? Enter the garden competition (details on the website). The judges will visit you in July and announce the winners, with photos, in the marquee on Show Day.
