| Cookie ~ Anne Jones nee Strange Bosham born and bred from good farming stock, there are at this time four generations of the Strange family living in the area. I
have tried my hand at many jobs over the years, barmaid at Berkeley
Arms when Reg was still there. Petrol pump attendant at Bosham Service
Station (now a building site). Partner in the Country Butcher and
turkey Shop at the top of Delling Lane. Nine years at Tesco in various
departments. Revenue assistant for HM Gov, until they decided to close
the Chichester office. Now I work on reception at Bosham Walk, part
time and have the book shop 'Chapter & Verse' up stairs in the Craft
Centre. I had the inkling of an idea to publish a magazine when I
choose to give up full time work to care for ageing parents. Both Fiona
and I knew nothing about publishing but as they say 'write about
something you know' we decided to launch 'The Downland Village News' in
May 2005, printing 1600 copies. By December 2009 we printed 4000 copies
December 2011 5300 copies and still rising ! Delivered free to
households in the Chichester ~ Emsworth gap, every month. In January
2010 when the website was launched we decided to change the name to
'The Village Magazine' because everyone called it 'The magazine', and
tied it in with the website. Since then we have been getting daily hits
into the hundreds per month. Next step was to put the mag itself
-online- which we have as a downloadable pdf file. Not ideal but most
cost effective way to do it at the moment. The whole idea is to 'keep
it local' local events, services and community, all pulling together for
the good of everyone.

| | Fiona Wilson nee Tyler Bosham
born but more of an outsider as only three generations living in
Bosham! Also from farming stock, the Tyler family moved to the village
from Arundel after the War and have stayed ever since. We have always
been friends with the Strange family both through farming and my father
was a retained fireman at Bosham where Anne's Dad was the Station
Officer. I first remember Anne from Fishbourne Primary School, and we
have kept in touch ever since. I also have tried my hand at many
occupations, from the early days mucking out pigs with my dear old Dad
before school, I progressed to a Saturday job at 'Sweets' now Luscombes,
working in the haberdashery side (now the Fish & chip shop). After
leaving Chichester High School, I trained in Accountancy which was
never a passion but has been an invaluable asset for all my other jobs
since! I ran the Bosham Post Office in the High Street for seven years
which is where Anne and I were reacquainted. Since we sold the shop, I
have carried on my bookkeeping business and have completed a Business
Studies degree at Portsmouth University. When Anne called me to
discuss her latest business idea - the 'Village Magazine', I thought it
was a great idea, when she asked me to help of course I agreed, but had
no idea what she was getting me into! Anyway we haven't looked back since and the rest as they say is history!!! | |
