Boys Brigade Centenary Celebrations

This year, 2017, marks 100 years of the Junior section within the Boys Brigade. Centenary celebrations are being held all around the country throughout the year to take part in this milestone event. New Life Church in Emsworth held a fun-day in May to mark this celebration, hosting day full of a variety of activities to keep the boys in attendance entertained.

New Life welcomed 160 boys from 17 different companies across the South Coast to take part in this fun filled day. Organised by Boys Brigade in Hampshire, and held at New Life Christian Church who host the 3rd Emsworth company. To build the hype beforehand each brigader wanting to attend was to purchase a golden ticket from their leaders to give them access to all that was to be planned. These tickets were then exchanged to get in, being welcomed at registration to the sounds of Boys Brigade company, 1st Chandlers Ford, and their brass band accompaniment.

The day included a variety of activities for every child to enjoy. Activities included, a treasure hunt, archery, bouncy castles, football, craft and human hungry hippos, plus many more events. These events were planned on a rotation basis so that each boy was able to have a try at everything available. After all the fun it was time to welcome a kids worship session in a celebration service, fronted by the NLCC kids band and a small talk led by fellow Boys Brigade leaders. A BBQ serving both burgers and hot dogs to the masses, brought the day to an end with an ice cream to wash down the main course from local Bosham ice cream van.

Maximum fun was had by all 270 people who attended the event, this included the boys, their leaders, along with some of their parents, and siblings who stuck around to enjoy the atmosphere. Volunteers from New Life Church helped to make the day a success, by taking their time to make sure things ran smoothly and how they were planned to be. The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Elaine Shimbart attended for a short while to take in the surroundings and witness the celebrations going ahead.

New Life Church host both Boys and Girls Brigade every Monday during term time from 6pm – 7:15pm. Facilities are available for parents to wait around for their child in the foyer area for free teas and coffees and to meet other parents. For more information about both companies visit
