Amberley Museum – Autumn Historic Transport Gathering – TODAY!

We are hosting our annual Autumn Historic Transport Gathering on Sunday 7th October.  With around 300 historic vehicles booked in for the annual show, from vintage cars, commercial and public transport vehicles, stationary engines and motorcycles from over 100 years of transport history.

Brian Johnson the organiser has been running this event since the first one back in October 1978, and it has gone from strength to strength over the last 40 years, with some of our exhibitors attending this event every year!  This year we are celebrating our 40thanniversary of this event, which is leading up to our museums 40th Birthday in May 2019, as the museum officially opened for its first season on the 26th May 1979.

Our museum will be alive with activity on this day with many of our resident craftspeople displaying their crafts and skills for you to enjoy.  With our resident potters, our Greenwood Village which is home to the crafts of the stonemasons, the Amberley bodger, and the traditional bow makers.

Amberley Museum is a remarkable heritage site in the Sussex South Downs, with 36 acres to explore and over 40 exhibit buildings to visit, focusing on industrial and transport history. Take a ride on our narrow gauge railway and historic bus. Exhibits include the telecommunications hall, electricity hall, working printshop, lime kilns, steam engines and more.

Our museum is home to traditional craftspeople such as the Woodturners and Blacksmith, with a café, gift shop, nature trails and picnic areas. We are accessibility friendly and dogs are welcome on site.

This year our museum is celebrating its 40th season, and we are hosting over 50 events in 2018 from children’s activity days to classic vehicle shows.  We will be open from the 7th March to 28th October, for more information on their events, or education programme, please see our website for full details
